ARTIST
Ruth Eliav, Israeli artist working in Jerusalem and Tzur Hadassah. Graduate of the Jerusalem Studio School (JSS), founded by Israel Hershberg, and holds an M.A. in Art Theory and Policy from the Bezalel Academy of Arts. Alongside her studio practice, she teaches drawing and painting at the Israel Museum. Eliav is a full member of the Mary Cooperative Gallery in Jerusalem.
Eliav’s work oscillates between figurative painting and moments of abstract, material dissolution. Rooted in the prolonged observation of nature, landscapes, and the interplay of light and matter, her pieces explore the tension between visual precision and free, expressive painterly gestures. In recent years, her practice has investigated the threshold between presence and disappearance, and between depiction and erasure, utilizing layered oil paint, drawing, and charcoal.
Her painterly language maintains a dialogue with classical traditions while simultaneously searching for a personal, emotional, and contemporary expression. Through a process of slow observation and accumulated mark-making, Eliav seeks to distill from reality moments of quietude, intimacy, and raw material power.
רות אליאב, אמנית ישראלית הפועלת בצור הדסה ובירושלים. בוגרת הסדנה לציור ורישום של ישראל הרשברג (JSS), ובעלת תואר שני (M.A) בתיאוריה ומדיניות של האמנות מטעם בצלאל. לצד עשייתה האמנותית, היא מלמדת רישום וציור במוזיאון ישראל.

עבודותיה של אליאב נעות בין ציור פיגורטיבי לבין רגעים של התפרקות חומרית ומופשטת. הן מבוססות על התבוננות ממושכת בטבע, בנוף ובתופעות אור וחומר ומתמקדות במתח שבין דיוק חזותי לבין מחווה ציורית חופשית. בשנים האחרונות, עבודתה חוקרת את הגבול שבין נוכחות להיעלמות, בין תיאור לבין מחיקה, דרך שימוש בשכבות צבע, רישום ופחם.
השפה הציורית שלה מקיימת דיאלוג עם מסורות ציור קלאסיות, לצד חיפוש אחר ביטוי אישי, רגשי ועכשווי. דרך מהלך של התבוננות איטית ועבודה מצטברת, אליאב מבקשת לזקק מתוך המציאות רגעים של שקט, אינטימיות ועוצמה חומרית.
